1:14 – Christmas in One Verse

word became flesh advent series

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

In one densely-packed verse, John lays out the mystery and miracle that we celebrate at Christmas. Over four weeks, leading up to Christmas, we’ll be unwrapping this rich statement one phrase at a time:

  • Why does John refer to Jesus as ‘the Word?’
  • How does the eternal, uncreated God ‘become flesh?’
  • What does it mean that Jesus ‘made his dwelling among us?’
  • In what way does this Palestinian Jewish man show us the glory of God?
  • How are we to understand the relationship between Jesus and the Father?
  • What does a human life look like that doesn’t try to balance grace and truth, but embodies both in fullness?

Join us as we let John lead us into a deep encounter with the One whose coming we celebrate!
