As we follow the story in Mark, Jesus is becoming a celebrity in Galilee, but not everyone’s excited about him. In the face of this mixed reaction, Jesus defines what it means to be his disciple and redefines the boundaries of his family.

The gospel of Mark is the earliest written account of the life of Jesus, based largely on the eyewitness account of Peter. It’s a fast-paced, breathless account of the astonishing figure, Jesus of Nazareth, who taught and acted with a unique authority. Everyone around Jesus is trying to figure out who this person is - dangerous radical or insightful rabbi, wondrous miracle-worker or long-awaited messiah? Mark records all these reactions as he tells the story of Jesus, but lets his readers in on a secret - Jesus is all of these things and much more - he is the Son of God. As we spend some time listening to Mark tell us about Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, prepare to be surprised, disturbed and amazed by this incredible man as we are confronted with the same question: Who is Jesus? What do we think of him? And what difference does it make for how we live today?
