Why Did He Have to Say That

Jesus wants to change the world – and he’s enlisting us in the campaign. Our primary calling as followers of Jesus is to make more followers of Jesus. How can our everyday lives be leveraged and used towards this end?

From Series: "Why Did He Have to Say That"

G.K. Chesterton once quipped that following Jesus “has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried.” Following Jesus is hard. Anyone who tells you differently is either lying, selling something or hasn’t really tried following Jesus for themselves. Jesus tells us to do things we don’t want to do – from the extremely distasteful (“love your neighbors” – all of them!) to the seemingly impossible (“love your enemies” yes, even them!) to the outright alarming (“take up your cross… give up your life” – all of it). It would be so much easier if we could rewrite some of Jesus’ sayings and make them a little easier, a little more comfortable, a little more manageable. But when we look at why Jesus would tell us to do these things, we might discover that the life he’s inviting us into is worth the inconvenience, the risk and the hard work required to follow Jesus. Maybe the narrow, difficult path that many choose not to take is the best way after all.
