God calls a group of people to gather for the first worship meeting, laying the foundation for Threads Church.

Leaders motivated by the statistic that 95% of 18 to 35-year-olds in Kalamazoo lack a meaningful connection to a community following Jesus.

Early Days

Threads becomes a space for people to hear the good news of Jesus in relatable language.

2010s

Threads Church, situated within the non-denominational evangelical movement, begins examining traditional hierarchical gender roles. Leadership takes steps to ensure that gender is not a barrier to serving at every level.

Threads leans into anti-racist commitments and takes a strong stance against rising Christian Nationalism and anti-immigrant sentiment.
2014

Threads relocates from Portage to Milwood, identified as an under-resourced neighborhood for community engagement.
2020 - Present

Threads leadership begins a journey of listening, repenting, and reshaping understanding of the church's call in relation to LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Leadership reimagines and recommits to Threads' original vision for a church where the marginalized can find belonging.

Threads begins fully celebrating and affirming LGBTQIA+ siblings in Christ.

Threads begins identifying as "post-evangelical" - retaining core values like love for Jesus and high value on Scripture while distancing from exclusivity and fear-based understandings of faith.
